The challenge
Westermo is a leading manufacturer of industrial networking solutions and routers used in demanding industries such as rail, energy and water supply. Their devices are built to withstand harsh environments and require robust remote control and network management solutions. The challenge was to create a simple and secure method to connect Westermo’s routers into a common network – no matter where in the world the devices are located – and enable remote access without complicated configuration.
The solution
Quality Think has helped to develop and further develop WeConnect – Westermo’s VPN-based platform for secure remote access and network management. Our role has mainly been to build the solution that makes it possible to connect Westermo’s industrial routers to a common, encrypted network via the internet.
Seamless network configuration with WeConnect
With WeConnect, operators and technicians can easily create a secure VPN network that connects devices located in geographically dispersed locations – for example, along a railroad line, in an industrial building or at a hydroelectric power plant. Using a web-based portal, the network can be configured step-by-step without advanced networking skills, and new routers can be added with just an internet connection. The result is a scalable and reliable solution that saves time and resources on installation, maintenance and troubleshooting.
