The Challenge
Westermo is a leading manufacturer of industrial networking solutions and routers used in demanding industries such as rail, energy, and water supply. Their devices are built to withstand harsh environments and require robust solutions for remote control and network management. The challenge was to create a simple and secure method for connecting Westermo’s routers to a common network—regardless of where in the world the devices are located—and to enable remote access without complicated configuration.
The Solution
Quality Think has helped develop and refine WeConnect—Westermo’s VPN-based platform for secure remote access and network management. Our role has primarily involved building the solution that enables Westermo’s industrial routers to be connected to a shared, encrypted network via the internet. A strong technical focus has been placed on the platform’s security architecture, where we have developed customized solutions for extremely secure logins and strict, role-based access control. Through this customized development of the portal and its administration interface, we have transformed the platform into a modern and secure solution where complex network management can be handled in a seamless, secure, and fully centralized manner.
Seamless network configuration with WeConnect
With WeConnect, operators and technicians can easily set up a secure VPN network that connects devices located in geographically dispersed locations—for example, along a railroad line, in an industrial facility, or at a hydroelectric power plant. Using a web-based portal, the network can be configured step by step without advanced networking knowledge, and new routers can be added with just an internet connection. The result is a scalable and reliable solution that saves time and resources during installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. In addition, the platform provides administrators with a centralized, real-time overview, enabling them to proactively detect and resolve network anomalies before they escalate into critical issues.
