Epiroc DTH Optimizer – IoT app for real-time optimization of drilling
The challenge
Epiroc is a world-leading supplier of innovative drilling equipment, tools and services for the mining and construction industry. With an increased focus on digitalization and operational optimization, Epiroc needed a smart solution to maximize the efficiency of Down-The-Hole (DTH) drilling.
The challenge was to develop a solution that could analyze vibration patterns in real time during the drilling cycle and guide the operator towards optimal drilling parameters – without requiring advanced technical skills from the user. The system also needed to collect performance data for continuous monitoring and improvement. The project was carried out in collaboration with Load Indicator System AB (LISAB), specialists in sensor technology and measurement systems.
The solution
Quality Think, in collaboration with Load Indicator System AB (LISAB), has built Epiroc DTH Optimizer – a complete digital solution for real-time optimization of DTH drilling. Our role has included developing the mobile app as well as the software in the base station, while LISAB contributed with their expertise in sensor integration and measurement systems.
The system consists of a vibration sensor mounted on the drilling equipment, a base station that collects and processes data in real time, and an operator-friendly mobile app. The app guides the operator with clear instructions and visual feedback to reach the optimal drilling parameters – without the need for specialized expertise. The platform continuously collects performance data that enables monitoring and improvement over time.

The result is a modern and reliable solution that enables Epiroc’s customers to maximize their drilling efficiency and reduce cost per meter. DTH Optimizer guides the operator in real time based on vibration data, eliminating the need for manual fine-tuning and reducing the risk of unnecessary wear on drilling equipment.
Thanks to the system’s easy installation and user-friendly interface, the solution can be quickly implemented in existing drilling operations. Performance data is continuously collected and analyzed, enabling data-driven and continuous improvement of the drilling process.
