Since goteborg.com used Vue 2 and Nuxt 2, the platform was facing an inevitable End of Life (EOL). This meant a definitive end to all official maintenance, security fixes, and ongoing updates. For such a central and highly trafficked portal—which serves as the city’s official face to millions of tourists and residents—it was unthinkable to risk security vulnerabilities or performance losses.
The challenge was to carry out an in-depth technical migration of a complex ecosystem involving large amounts of data and external integrations, while keeping the site fully operational without any downtime for users.
Together with the Göteborg & Co agency, Quality Think initiated a comprehensive upgrade process in which we took responsibility for the technical development. The front end was revamped through a comprehensive migration from Vue 2 to Vue 3, which required a thorough refactoring of the existing codebase. On the API and cache front, we implemented strategic optimizations to improve data management and speed up response times between the API and the front end. By streamlining the underlying stack—consisting of Vue, Node.js, and WordPress—we were able to eliminate technical debt and ensure an optimal data flow for high traffic loads.
The launch has given goteborg.com an ultra-fast, secure, and stable digital presence. Thanks to the switch to Vue 3 and refined caching mechanisms, the site loads significantly faster, providing a noticeably better user experience for all visitors. The end result is a robust and future-proof web solution that eliminates security risks and provides Göteborg & Co with a modern and stable foundation to build upon for many years to come. We found this to be an incredibly enjoyable, challenging, and rewarding project to carry out, and we are very pleased to have been able to contribute technically to Gothenburg’s digital flagship at this stage!
